Frenchtown Pond State Park

Bring the whole family out for a day of picnicking, swimming, fishing, walking, or just relaxing in the fresh air with your favorite book.

About the Park

Frenchtown Pond State Park offers surrounding communities access to a scenic pond for gatherings, recreation and outdoor education. With its well-maintained lawns, picnic tables, playground and flush toilet restrooms, it seems more an urban park but in a rural setting.

Frenchtown Pond State Park was established in 1972 and in the generations since, the park, and its 18-acre pond, has been a popular site for picnics, swimming and paddling sports as well as four-season fishing for bass, perch and hatchery trout. It’s a high-quality outdoor education resource, where thousands of kids have participated in Hooked on Fishing, ice fishing clinics and Junior Ranger programs. As a venue for many family, school, church and local events, Frenchtown Pond State Park serves as thread in the fabric of community life in the Frenchtown, West Valley and greater Missoula area.

Frenchtown Pond State Park is located 17 miles west of Missoula on I-90, near the community of Frenchtown in Missoula County. The park is a day-use-only site. Amenities at the park include two reservable group use shelters, two small shelters, numerous picnic tables and barbecues, two comfort stations, a playground and fishing dock and more than a mile of pedestrian and bike trail that circumnavigates the pond. Frenchtown Pond State Park also is the site of an American Legion Flag and Veterans Memorial.
