FWP has 3 different types of drawing statistic reports that are available following a drawing:
1. Detailed Bonus Point Drawing Statistics Reports
These reports are created for drawings utilizing the bonus point system. Not all drawings use bonus points, so these reports do not apply to every drawing.
Each report demonstrates the proportion of applicants by residency given the respective amount of bonus points by license opportunity.
The bonus point system is completely random by design. Drawing statistics vary each time a drawing is conducted. For more information on bonus points, please visit the bonus point section of our website: https://fwp.mt.gov/buyandapply/hunting-licenses/bonus-points.

2. Drawing Statistics Reports
These statistical reports do not consider bonus points. These reports simply demonstrate final quotas drawn, applicants in each category (resident landowner, nonresident landowner, resident, nonresident), and the proportion of those applicants successful in drawing each opportunity.

3. Nonresident Combination Preference Point Statistics Reports
The information from these reports is taken during the primary drawing of the nonresident combination license to capture the proportion of those drawn with a certain amount of preference points.
These reports do not consider licenses which are later refunded and reissued due to applicants who do not draw their elk permit, which takes place after the primary drawing.
The Nonresident Big Game Combination and Elk Combination statistics are combined because they are a combined quota of 17,000.
Fractional preference point amounts are the result of party applications. Preference points are averaged amongst party members and rounded to the third decimal point.
For more information on preference points, please visit the preference point section of our website: https://fwp.mt.gov/buyandapply/hunting-licenses/bonus-points.

Nonresidents
Residents
The only ‘cap’ for residents is the overall drawing quota.
Resident landowners may be allocated up to 15% of the overall drawing quota. Landowner Preference is the first stage of the drawing.
Quota adjustments
Quotas which are printed in the regulations are subject to change prior to a drawing based on recommendations by FWP biologists.
Quotas may only be adjusted within the quota range approved by the Montana Fish and Wildlife Commission.
